and it was revealed that you were jennette's older sister and anastacius heir. and you only used the alpheus dukedom so that you will be able to help your father achieve his goal.

and what is ijekiel's reaction about this? sure, he felt betrayed. since he was starting to trust you and your intentions. but at the same time, this..... excites him.

he doesn't know what's wrong with him. but everything about your betrayal excites him. the time where he confronted you, and the time you hesitated to use your black magic to kill him— he realized the effect that he has to you.

Nikolai likes giving gifts. He likes buying little trinkets from his years of travelling, or a pretty rock he found in the streets. If it catches his eye, it'll inevitably end up on one of Nik's many cabinets.

Which was exactly how John walked into his office only to find a basket full of... Things? He pauses, shifting through the woven basket with a perplexed frown. Crystals, rocks, candy with unknown languages written on them, several dozen dried flowers...and a bullet with dried blood on it...?

"What the-"

Whatever profanity was about to drop out of his mouth was replaced by the russian turning around on his office chair. Price hadn't noticed him sitting there for some reason. (And he's going to pretend it's not because he's been so used to the man's presence that his mind barely registers him).

"Captain! I've brought some gifts for you!"

His russian accent pushed through on the word Captain, and Price could almost imagine the words being muttered like a prayer in somewhere else. He shook his head, mentally berating himself before flipping the rock in his hands, inspecting it slowly.

"Wot's all this then? A prototype?"

He muses, noting how the bullet had J.P and a N.B etched into the corners of it. He continues fiddling with the rock, looking up at Nik with amusement. Only to be meant with... An almost hurted look on the man's face.

Fuck, he's a fucking idiot.

He remembers the times before he had taken the ranks of a captain, when he was still a bared face, cleanly shaven sergeant. He remembers meeting Nik back then on the field, a russian informant that was on the run. Price remembers the times under moonlit streets where Nik would slip rocks he found pretty into John's hands, a smile hanging on his face.

Shit, how could he have forgotten that?

Still, there wasn't much time for him to remorse, when the silence was broken by Nik's laughter. And Price ignored the fact that he somehow knew that laugh was Nik masking his hurt under his usual cocky demeanor.

"Da, da. You're right, cap't. Just a prank, that's all."

He smiled, and even Price could see it was strained. Nik picked up the basket, intending to make off with his gifts. And Price could have barely stopped himself from what happened next.

One step, two, and he was pulling Nik in for a kiss, hands gripping the collar of the russian's shirt as he pulled him closer. Seconds blended into each other before Price staggered away, almost horrified with himself. He ignored how Nik looked almost star struck, eyes wide and hands lingering on his lips, almost dazed.

Shit, shit. He acted on his feelings, Nik was gonna hate him now. Fuck, he's going to have to transfer for real now, put as much distance between the both of them. He took another step back, knuckles white from how hard he was gripping his arms.

"Christ- fuck, Nik. I-I'm so sorry, I-"

Memories of when he was just a boy came flooding back, his father's hits had felt like god's punishment, as though the lord himself had come down from the heavens just to punish him for liking a boy in his football club. Tears pricked in the corner of his eyes, and he could see Nik getting closer, concern on his face. Price could almost feel the apologies being mumbled, could see the hours of praying for forgiveness in front of him.

He felt like a young boy once more, nowhere to go and run under his father's gaze, watching his every move, the belt taunting him, daring him to mess up in his prayers.

Price choked down the apologies that threatened to come out, before he ran out of his office, not daring to look behind him towards Nikolai.
